Treating knee pain – stay mobile without surgery

Whether you're climbing stairs, finishing a run, or standing up from a squat: knee pain affects everyone, from athletes to those who are less active, and can quickly become a chronic burden. At our practice in Zurich, we treat the root cause of knee pain using Liebscher & Bracht pain therapy and Winback Tecar deep heat. Many of our patients have been able to avoid knee surgery as a result.

Symptome

Typical symptoms include pain on the inside of the knee or under the kneecap, stiffness when starting to move after sitting, pain when walking down stairs or downhill, a feeling of tightness behind the knee, or pain during physical activity. Even with a diagnosis of knee osteoarthritis or meniscus issues, these everyday situations are often when the knee hurts the most.

In cases of severe swelling, instability, or following a twisting injury, you should have your knee examined by a doctor first.

Ursachen

The knee is positioned between two powerful muscle-fascia chains: the front and back of the thigh and the calf muscles. If these structures shorten due to prolonged sitting or repetitive strain, the pressure on the kneecap, joint surfaces, and meniscus increases significantly – and the knee signals this overload with pain.

This is why knees can hurt even when an MRI shows nothing abnormal – and why knee pain can decrease significantly despite osteoarthritis once muscular-fascial tension is reduced. Joint pressure drops, the cartilage surfaces are relieved, and the knee can recover.

Behandlung Liebscher und Bracht

With osteopressure, we reduce excessive tension in the thigh and calf muscles by targeting specific pressure points around the knee. The pressure in the joint subsides – often making climbing stairs and standing up noticeably easier after just the first few sessions.

The corresponding targeted stretches lengthen the shortened muscle chains from hip to foot and keep joint pressure permanently low – the most important step to ensure your knee pain doesn't return.

Behandlung Winack Tecar

Winback Tecar deep heat reaches structures near the joint that are difficult to treat from the outside: it promotes blood circulation around the knee joint, can improve the gliding ability of the joint surfaces, and supports the regeneration of irritated tendon attachments – such as in runner's knee or patellar tendonitis. Tecar therapy also accelerates healing in the post-operative care of knee surgeries.

The combination – double the effectiveness: Deep heat relaxes and regenerates the tissue, while the Liebscher & Bracht treatment takes the pressure off the joint. Together, this means less pain, more mobility – and in many cases, a real alternative to surgery.

What helps with knee pain when climbing stairs?

Pain when climbing stairs is usually caused by excessive pressure from shortened thigh muscles on the kneecap and joint. We reduce this tension using osteopressure and deep heat, and provide you with targeted stretching exercises – often resulting in quick relief.

Can I avoid knee surgery?

In many cases, yes. If the pain is caused by muscular-fascial tension, it can be treated at the source – several of our patients in Zurich have been able to cancel planned surgeries as a result. We provide a professional assessment after an initial examination.

Does the treatment also help with knee osteoarthritis?

Yes. By reducing joint pressure and improving blood circulation, osteoarthritis pain often decreases significantly – learn more on our osteoarthritis page.
